New Year’s Resolutions for Medical Billers

The field of medical billing is ever growing and changing. It is easy to sometimes become complacent in our career. When this happens, we can become bored and dissatisfied.  Right now is a great time to make some New Year’s resolutions regarding your medical billing career.

With the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and implementation of ICD-10, there is a lot happening in the medical billing industry. There is also a lot to learn. The specificity required in ICD-10 makes learning medical terminology and anatomy in more detail crucial to the successful medical coder and biller.  Medical terminology and anatomy classes can be found online easily. Even just studying a textbook yourself at home is a great way to educate yourself. However, already certified medical billers would benefit from an online course that would count toward continuing education credits.  Such courses can be found through or through the AAPC website.

New Year’s Resolutions for Medical Billers

Medical billers would also be wise to educate themselves about ICD-10. Online courses exist through online entities such as or AAPC. Learning ICD-10 may take just a few weeks’ time for an experienced medical billers.  With the advent of the new year, it’s a great time to decide to get started learning ICD-10.

If you already have refreshed your anatomy and terminology knowledge and are familiar with ICD-10, just striving to learn something new in the industry is a great way to refresh your career. Order some industry publications, or Google medical billing articles and read up on what is happening within the industry right now.

Enhancing your medical billing career is a great resolution to make for 2015, and now is the right time to get started. Learn about what is going on the industry. Keep up with industry trends and changes. Form your own opinions on the issues. This is what can add “life” back into your career and make it interesting and exciting again.
